The weather is turning warmer, Mama. Don’t let the spring pass you by. Check out this list of fun spring activities for families that you’ll all enjoy!
Good news, American friends! Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania, did not see his shadow last Sunday. This means that spring just might come early this year! (And if you’re not American, think I sound insane, and want to read all about how we look to a groundhog to predict the weather, click here.)
Anyways, regardless of whether Phil is right or not, spring will be here eventually. I believe part of LOVING your life as a mom is finding a reason to celebrate with your family every season. It’s why I’ve compiled this list of spring activities for families. Your celebrations needn’t be complicated or expensive, but they should be fun.
Caveat here: when I say fun, I don’t mean just fun for the kids. I mean fun for you. When you look over this list, some things will inspire an “absolutely not”. Cross them off. Some things will inspire a “yes please”. Schedule those on your calendar or add them to a checklist. Still others will provoke a “hmmm…haven’t thought about doing that in awhile.”
Add those to the list, too. Give yourself permission to get dirty, to spend the day being “unproductive”, and to do something for the sole reason that it will bring you joy. We need more joyful mamas in this world. Join the club.

- Plan a trip for spring break or summer vacation
- Feed the ducks. I did a little research, and feeding them bread, like we did when I was a kid, is actually bad for them. (Mind blown.) The Canal and River Trust in the UK did a study on what healthy-for-ducks foods they liked best. Kale was the most popular choice.
- Skip stones on the lake
- Find a beautiful place to sit and sketch or paint
- Open the windows and air out your home. Practice keeping your voice down when you lose your cool and yell at your kids.

- Blow giant bubbles (this recipe is amazing)
- Celebrate May Day (Friday, May 1st, 2020) by reviving the American tradition of the May Day basket. Fill a small basket with flowers or little trinkets, leave it on a friend or neighbor’s porch, knock on the door, and run away. (Learn more here.)
- Look for apple or cherry blossoms
- Hang a hummingbird feeder. I love this one.
- Visit an aviary to see honeybees in action
- Play mini golf
- Visit an arboretum or botanical garden
- Do a family ‘spring clean’ of the kids’ stuff TOGETHER. This is a great chance for the kids to clear out some old toys. It’s also a nice opportunity to see if you need to purchase things like bubbles or sidewalk chalk. Finally, it’s a great chance to check if you have outgrown things like warm-weather clothing or bicycles! (Ok, I know this one isn’t traditionally fun, but put on some music, grab a fun drink or two, and make it an excuse to party. Remember we always have the power to choose the way we see any situation.)
